Pembrokeshire has two Broad Havens – one in the south of the county and the other just north of the Cleddau Estuary.  Both are beautiful and well worth visiting but here we are going to talk about Broad Haven north as it is less than five miles from our Little Welsh Wood campsite.  Broad Haven has been a seaside resort from the 1800’s and today the Visit Pembrokeshire website describes the beach as a ‘paradise for children and one of the finest in Pembrokeshire.’  It has a broad sandy beach with numerous rockpools to explore.  There is a village shop on the seafront selling almost everything including beach essentials such as buckets & spades and plenty of ice cream!.  Also near the seafront is a well stocked water sports shop where you can hire wetsuits, surfboards, paddleboards and kayaks.  In terms of other amenities, Broad Haven  has a bistro/cafe, a pizzaria, a chip shop and a pub.  For those who enjoy walking, Broad Haven is a good point to start a coastal walk with the choice of going south toward St Brides Haven or to the north, passing through Druidston Haven and Nolton Haven as far as Newgale.  Both of these walks are about six miles long and the coast path in this area is not too difficult.  Whichever direction you choose, you are guaranteed some spectacular views out over St Brides Bay and also inland where you will see dairy and beef farms, arable farms and along the Dale peninsula, depending on when you visit, you will very likely see our famous ‘Pembrokeshire earlies’ potato crop being harvested.

To make things easier there is a coastal bus service operating which allows you to park up, enjoy a good walk and catch the ‘Puffin Shuttle‘ back to your car!
